SCAA girls’ soccer playoffs will commence May 16th for AA & A Sr and AAA & AA Jr divisions. The girls slo-pitch season began May 8th with the Pink Ribbon invitational tournament which has held at the Barrie Community Sports Complex. The Innisdale Invaders captured the championship tournament banner with a record of 4-0. The Stayner Collegiate Spartans won the tournament consolation banner with a record of 3-1. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Canadian Cancer Society.
The Sr and Jr AAA Girls soccer regular season commenced Wednesday May 1st with a tournament format day at Springwater Tree Nursery fields in Midhurst. All participating teams played 2 games on Wednesday. Fortunately the weather cooperated and all games were played under windy conditions but without rain. The regular season now unfolds with all teams hosting and traveling to respective school fields.
The GBSSA Sr badminton championship was held April 24th at Georgian College in Barrie. Winners from the GBSSA Sr championship move on to the OFSAA badminton tournament held in North Bay May 2nd to May 4th. The SCAA spring season debuted this week with regular season action in both boys and girls rugby as well as girls soccer. Boys baseball is set to commence April 29th and girls slo-pitch will begin play May 14th.
The Eastview Wildcats boys curling team won gold at the 2019 OFSAA championship March 23rd which was held in North Bay. The Wildcats went undefeated with a record of 5-0 in pool play. In the quarterfinals Eastview defeated Humberside Collegiate Institute (Toronto) 6-3 and moved onto the semi-final round where they defeated St. Ignatius High School (Thunder Bay) 8-4. OSS Nighthawk swimmer Caleb Near earned a silver medal in the Open Boys’ 100-metre backstroke at the OFSAA championship which was held March 5th – 6th in Toronto. The CCI Fighting Owls Nordic Ski team won silver in the Sr Girls Relay, Jr Girls Relay and the Jr Boys Relay at the OFSAA Nordic Ski Championship held in Duntroon (Nordic Highlands) Feb. 28th & March 1st. The ESS Wildcats are the 2019 GBSSA Boys Curling Champions. The Wildcats defeated Patrick Fogarty 8 – 3 in the GBSSA semi-final. In the GBSSA final the Wildcats defeated the GBDSS Bears by a score of 9 – 5. The Wildcats will now proceed to the OFSAA curling championship which is being held in North Bay from March 20th – 23rd.
